IMPORTANT SHIPPING UPDATE
Greetings!
As per the Canada Post Union: "Today, June 20th, 2025, we had our first meeting with the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to discuss details of the upcoming government-imposed vote on Canada Post’s May 28th, 2025 final offers for both postal bargaining units. The meeting was virtual and hosted by the CIRB and lasted about one and a half hours. This meeting was scheduled for preliminary discussions to address some aspects of the process regarding the way the vote would be conducted. No decisions were made by the CIRB at this meeting nor did the Union commit to any parameters. The goal was to hear the parties’ perspectives on these issues. The CIRB will issue a summary of these discussions in writing at the beginning of next week and the parties will have further opportunity to comment or respond to these concerns in writing. At this time, no dates have been decided for when the vote will take place."
The main point of interest to know is that neither Canada Post nor the Union will be escalating to a full lockdown while this voting process plays out. The road to the actual vote appears to be a slow one considering it took 8 days just to schedule an initial meeting to discuss the vote with no date nor details solidified. We previously had some parcels get delivered earlier this month and no problems were experienced.
We exclusively ship using Canada Post due to their service and their prices. We once again looked at alternative methods but the cost difference was still way too expensive and based on our experience the service was nowhere near Canada Post in terms of dependability, speed, address reach, and the care of the parcels. For example, we get parcels from the distributors using CanPar, UPS, and FedEx with the results being that CanPar damaged almost every parcel sent to us in May, UPS damaged five in May, and FedEx damaged one in May. In all the times we have used Canada Post since 2015 we have only had a single instance where a parcel was damaged and that was one heading to the US so it could have even been due to their postal system. We do not want to run the risk of avoidable shipping damages especially nowadays where the various publishers are printing less and less in regards to stock levels.
